The Battle Of TewkesburyThe Battle of Tewkesbury took place on 4 May 1471 and was a decisive battle in the Wars of the Roses, it restored political stability until King Edward's death in 1483.
The forces loyal to the House of Lancaster were defeated by the rival House of York under King Edward IV. The Lancastrian heir to the throne, Prince Edward of Wales and many other prominent nobles were killed or were dragged from the sanctuary of Tekwesbury Abbey two days later and executed. The Lancastrian King Henry VI already held in the Tower of London was murdered after the battle.
